Hook Head
Climb the 115 well-worn steps of the tower and explore thick-walled chambers, meet a life-size hologram figure: St Dubhán, who tells of perishing nights spent with fellow monks in the 5th century warning sailors against dangers with a beacon they kept alight on the headland.
Then another life-size figure appears Strongbow’s son-in-law William Marshal, “the greatest knight that ever lived”, who tells of his empire in the Southeast, as he built this very lighthouse tower in the 13th century, to guide shipping to his port at New Ross. Hear tales of times gone by of life as a lighthouse keeper. And when you reach the tower balcony enjoy the sea breeze on your face as you gaze at the miles of coastline and an awesome 360-degree view stretching across Wexford, Waterford and the Celtic sea.
Then relax by the sea and enjoy some homemade produce at the Café in the visitor centre situated at the former light keepers’ houses with gift shops, art workshops and exhibits.
